NHAI plans 8-km elevated corridor in Western Delhi
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning an 8-kilometer elevated corridor between Mundka and Peeragarhi in Western Delhi to alleviate heavy traffic congestion on New Rohtak Road.
The proposed corridor is intended to run parallel to the existing railway line to minimize land acquisition complexities. A primary objective of the project is to provide a bypass for heavy commercial vehicles, such as containers and trucks, entering Delhi from Haryana. By diverting these vehicles to the elevated route, the ground-level road will remain available for local traffic, DTC buses, and daily commuters, potentially reducing travel times and pollution.
Strategically, the corridor is planned to connect directly with Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2), which serves as Delhi’s third ring road. This link will allow traffic from Haryana to bypass internal city roads and head directly toward North Delhi, the Karnal Road (NH-44), and Indira Gandhi International Airport. NHAI is currently studying the technical feasibility and traffic pressure associated with the project.
