NHAI raises toll rates on Karnataka highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced a hike in toll charges for three Karnataka road sections: the Bengaluru‑Chennai Expressway, the Bengaluru‑Nelamangala highway and the Mulbagal‑Andhra border stretch. The revised tariffs, effective until 31 March 2027, apply to cars, jeeps, vans and light motor vehicles at four toll plazas – Hegdeganebale, Agrahar, Krishnarajpura and Sundarapalya – with rates ranging from ₹50 to ₹150 per plaza. For the Bengaluru‑Nelamangala segment the one‑way charge is now ₹105 and a return trip within 24 hours costs ₹155. A 50 % discount is offered for return journeys taken within a day, and a reduced rate applies to users making 50 single trips in a month. NHAI officials noted that toll collection in the Karnataka stretch has been “better than expected,” previously generating about ₹10‑12 lakh daily. The increase aims to boost revenue while the discount measures aim to ease the burden on frequent commuters.
