Vietnam manages diverse weather, infrastructure, and urban flooding challenges

Vietnam is facing various challenges related to seasonal weather, infrastructure, and urban management. In Gia Lai, authorities have issued directives to prepare for potential storms and floods during the 2026 rainy season, emphasizing the need for proactive disaster response and resource readiness.

In Ho Chi Minh City, experts are calling for a shift in urban planning to address the interconnected issues of land subsidence and flooding caused by extreme rainfall and rising sea levels. Heavy rains have already caused significant damage to hundreds of hectares of seasonal rice crops in the city's eastern region, prompting local authorities to assist farmers with drainage and replanting efforts.

Infrastructure projects are also seeing significant activity. A riverside road project is entering its final stages with a goal of completion in 2026, while in Quang Ngai, emergency funds are being used to build embankments to prevent riverbank erosion. Conversely, repairs to the Song Lo bridge in Phu Tho are facing delays.

In Hanoi, traffic congestion has been reported on Nhat Tan Bridge following changes to traffic organization and the temporary removal of distance markers. Meanwhile, in Dong Nai, officials have ordered the removal of temporary structures near the Buong River to resolve local flooding issues caused by highway construction.
