Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi holds Asian record for five-pylon design

The Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi stands as a significant engineering feat, being the first cable-stayed bridge in Asia to feature five pylons. With a total investment of 13,626 billion VND funded through Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA), the bridge was constructed between 2009 and its inauguration in 2015.

The structure spans a total length of 8,930 meters, with a main bridge section of 3,755 meters and a width of 33.2 meters. It utilizes a continuous cable-stayed design with five pylons reaching 111 meters in height from the foundation. The design of the five pylons is symbolic, representing the five historic gates of Hanoi.

Technologically, the bridge incorporates advanced methods previously unused in Vietnam, such as steel anchor box technology on the pylons and a modern monitoring system to track cable tension and structural deformation. The foundation also utilizes steel pipe sheet pile technology transferred from Japan to enhance durability and construction efficiency.
