Nhat Tan Bridge to pilot new speed limits and safety markings

Hanoi authorities are launching a six-month pilot program to adjust traffic speeds and safety measures on the Nhat Tan Bridge, running from September 27, 2026, to March 27, 2027. Under the plan, the maximum speed for the lane closest to the median (lane 1) will be reduced from 90 km/h to 80 km/h in both directions. The other two car lanes will maintain a speed limit of 80 km/h, while the lane for motorcycles and bicycles will remain at 40 km/h.

To support this pilot, officials are installing new signage and road markings to help drivers maintain safe distances. These markings include sets of five markers at 0m, 50m, 100m, 150m, and 200m intervals. The goal is to reduce the risk of multi-vehicle collisions, particularly during high traffic density.

Following the evaluation of the Nhat Tan Bridge pilot, authorities may consider implementing similar distance-marking and speed-control measures on other major bridges, including Thang Long, Vinh Tuy, and Thanh Tri bridges.
