NHIA paid GH₵83.1 million in claims during late 2026

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) paid GH₵83.1 million in claims during the final two quarters of 2026, a significant increase compared to the GH₵27.8 million recorded for the entire year of 2025.

During a working visit to the NHIA on October 12, 2026, Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane, Chairman of Parliament's Health Committee, commended the Authority for the prompt disbursement of funds. He noted that timely reimbursements help healthcare providers offer services without delays or requiring patients to pay out-of-pocket.

Despite the improved payment speed, the NHIA acknowledged to the committee that leakages persist within its claims payment system. The Authority stated it is currently working to identify and close these loopholes to improve operational efficiency.
