NHK announces new cast for 2027 Taiga drama ‘Gyakuzoku no Bakushin’

NHK has announced the sixth installment of the cast for its 2027 Taiga drama, ‘Gyakuzoku no Bakushin’ (The Traitorous Shogunate Official), starring Tori Matsuzaka. The series focuses on the life of Oguri Tadasada, a figure who was marginalized by the Meiji government but was a contemporary and rival to Katsu Kaishu, played by Takao Osawa.

The new cast members include:

• Kumi Takauchi as Tami, the resilient wife of Katsu Kaishu. • Jun Saito in his Taiga debut as Oguri Tadamichi, the adopted son of the protagonist. • Kazuki Iio as Takebe Masazane, the father of Oguri’s wife, Michi. • Takuya Kusakawa as Arakawa Yuzo, a sharp-witted retainer to Oguri. • ANI as Mukasa Yuzaemon, a senior official of the Oguri household. • Masahiro Komoto as Sato Tojichi, a village headman who accompanies the mission to America.

The drama aims to explore the turbulent end of the Edo period from the perspective of the ‘losers’ of history.
