NHK announces new cast for morning drama Blossom

NHK has announced the ninth group of cast members for its upcoming morning drama series, ‘Blossom’, scheduled to begin broadcasting on September 28. The series is inspired by the life of writer Uno Chiyo, following the journey of the protagonist, Tamu Hayano, as she navigates the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras to become a novelist.

In the Hokkaido segment of the story, Kaoru Sugita will make her first appearance in an NHK morning drama, playing Namie Kimura, a supportive wife living in Sapporo. She will star alongside Hiroki Miyake, who portrays her husband, Seigo Kimura, an honest man working at a local bank. The characters are described as pivotal figures who represent a turning point in the protagonist's life.

Additional cast members for the Tokyo segment include Hideki Kitano, playing a literature enthusiast named Ryota Sano, and Junya Kawashima, who will portray Honda, the owner of a bookstore in Hongo that supports the protagonist's literary ambitions.
