NHK Blossom announces new cast members Kora, Sato, and Ogata

NHK has announced the tenth round of casting for its upcoming morning drama, Blossom, which is set to premiere on September 28. The new cast members include Kengo Kora, Himi Sato, and Issey Ogata, who will portray influential writers in the life of the protagonist, Tamu Hayano.

Kengo Kora will play Kunosuke Akiyama, a character inspired by the famous writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa. Kora noted that this marks his second time playing a role modeled after Akutagawa. Himi Sato will portray Kiichiro Kajiya, a young genius writer, marking her debut in an Asadora production. Issey Ogata will play Ushimaru Koyama, a mysterious translator of foreign literature.

The series, starring Shizuka Ishibashi, is inspired by the life of writer Un'yo Chiyo and follows the journey of Tamu Hayano as she navigates the challenges of becoming a novelist during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras.
