NHK drama Blossom inspired by writer Uno Chiyo

Details have emerged regarding the upcoming NHK morning drama series ‘Blossom’, which is inspired by the life of the prolific writer Uno Chiyo. The series follows the protagonist, Tama Hayano, as she navigates life from the Meiji era through the Showa era.

YOASOBI has been selected to perform the theme song, ‘Sakihokore’. The song is based on an original novel titled ‘Sakura (Hana) no Inochi wa Fumetsu nari’, written by Risa Wataya, an author who expresses great admiration for the real-life model, Uno Chiyo.

The title ‘Blossom’ reflects the themes of the series, symbolizing both the cherry blossoms of Chiyo’s hometown, Iwakuni, and her resilient life, which saw her flourish as a writer, editor, and kimono designer despite numerous personal and professional challenges. The narrative will explore her formative years, including her involvement in literary circles during her school days, which mirrors historical accounts of Chiyo’s own creative beginnings.
