NHK drama “Toyomi Brothers!” adds Sen no Rikyū and Hojo Ujimasa to cast

NHK’s historical series "Toyomi Brothers!" announced new cast members on July 22. 吉岡秀隆 will portray the tea‑master Sen no Rikyū, marking his first appearance in a taiga drama, while 谷原章介 has been cast as the Kanto warlord Hojo Ujimasa. The announcement also revealed additional samurai roles, including actors for Tokugawa’s four generals and other key figures from the Sengoku era.

A later article reviewed episode 28, in which the brothers Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his sibling confront the aftermath of Oda Nobunaga’s death. The episode shows intense confrontations among retainers such as Katsuie Shibata, Maeda Toshiie, and the lingering conflict with Akechi Mitsuhide, while Hideyoshi rallies his forces toward Kyoto.
