NHK Morning Drama “Kaze, Kaoru” Shows Marriage Doubts and Graduation Plans in Episodes 56–58
Episode 56 of NHK’s morning drama “Kaze, Kaoru” follows An (played by Hayasaka Miumi) as she confronts a family meeting about her impending marriage to Sōichi. After the meeting she admits she is reconsidering the union, describing a feeling of “marriage blues” and questioning what life as a wife would truly mean for her. Her brother Makimura (Lin Yuta) objects, seeing the marriage as a duty rather than a personal choice, while other characters react to An’s inner conflict.
Episode 58 moves the story forward as the first‑year trainees, including Rin (Mie Ue), Naomi (Uesaka), and Tae (Ikuta), are summoned by Burns (Emma Howard). The group then decides, on the suggestion of Shino (Kigoe), to spend a final memory‑making trip to Yokohama before graduation, highlighting their bonds and the approaching end of their training.
Both episodes deepen the series’ focus on personal aspirations versus societal expectations in the rapidly changing Meiji era.
