NHL and Canadiens issue warning following cell phone incident

The National Hockey League and the Montreal Canadiens have issued a formal memo to Bell Centre staff following a viral incident involving defenseman Arber Xhekaj. During a preseason game, Xhekaj was provided with a smartphone while in the penalty box to watch a live broadcast of a fight involving his brother, Florian Xhekaj.

In response to the incident, an official administrative note was distributed to all personnel working at the Bell Centre. The memo explicitly prohibits providing cell phones to players in the penalty box, citing the need to maintain professionalism and decorum during official games. The directive warns that future violations of this policy will result in direct consequences for those involved.
