NHL to host regular-season games in Germany in 2027

The National Hockey League (NHL) and the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) have announced a multi-year commitment to host regular-season games in Germany. As part of the 2027 NHL Global Series, the Boston Bruins will play two games at the SAP Garden in Munich, while the Edmonton Oilers will play two games at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne during the 2027-28 season.

This expansion follows a scheduled series in December 2026, where the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks will face off at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf. The league's strategy includes a new strategic partnership with German soccer club FC Bayern Munich to accelerate hockey growth in Germany and develop the club's presence in North America.

To support these efforts, the NHL and NHLPA are investing in community engagement, youth development, and street hockey programs, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia. The initiative aims to deepen connections between NHL players and the German market, leveraging the popularity of German stars like Leon Draisaitl and JJ Peterka.
