NHL considers hosting outdoor game at Munich's Allianz Arena
The National Hockey League (NHL) is exploring the possibility of hosting an outdoor game in Europe, with Germany's Allianz Arena identified as a primary candidate. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly has described the prospect of an outdoor match as a “real matter” that could occur within the next few years.
The league has recently established a partnership with FC Bayern, and the Allianz Arena in Munich is being considered due to its high-capacity infrastructure and suitability for such an event. Beyond Germany, the NHL is also looking at potential expansions or events in Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
In related news, German hockey star Leon Draisaitl, who plays for the Edmonton Oilers, recently traveled to Munich for NHL promotional activities and to support the league's partnership with FC Bayern. Draisaitl also addressed his recent performance and the Edmonton Oilers' management decisions following their playoff exit.
