NHL prospects Konsta Helenius and Gavin McKenna draw attention

Recent developments in the NHL highlight rising prospects Konsta Helenius and Gavin McKenna. Helenius, a Buffalo Sabres first-round pick, was ranked #4 in the team’s ‘Top 25 Under 25’ list. During the 2025-2026 season, he recorded 63 points in 63 AHL games with the Rochester Americans and contributed to the Sabres' playoff run, scoring two goals in four games. He also recently secured a gold medal with Finland in the World Championships.

Meanwhile, Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2026 NHL Draft, is facing high expectations. Willie Desjardins, head coach of the Medicine Hat Tigers, noted that while it is difficult for a young player to carry a team, McKenna is unlikely to settle for being average due to his drive and passion for the game. Early reports from team practice suggest McKenna has already demonstrated standout velocity and intelligence on the ice.
