The Vancouver Canucks used the third overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft to select centre Caleb Malhotra of the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs. Malhotra posted 84 points (29 goals, 55 assists) in 67 regular‑season games and added 13‑goal, 13‑assist playoff production. His selection was notable because his father, former NHL forward Manny Malhotra, had just been named Vancouver’s head coach.

With the first overall pick, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected forward Gavin McKenna from Penn State. McKenna logged 51 points (15 goals, 36 assists) in 35 collegiate games and contributed 14 points for Canada’s bronze‑medal team at the World Junior Championships. The 18‑year‑old, a native of Whitehorse, Yukon, becomes the second Indigenous player ever taken No. 1 overall. Both picks were announced in Buffalo, New York, as the draft’s opening night unfolded.
