NHL trade rumors focus on Maple Leafs and Canadiens defense

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly exploring the defense market to bolster a core that has an average age of 33 among its top-six defensemen. Potential moves could involve trading young players, prospects, or goaltender Anthony Stolarz to acquire a top-four defenseman. While acquiring high-cost restricted free agents like Alexander Nikishin or Simon Edvinsson remains a possibility, the team may wait until closer to the trade deadline to secure long-term assets.

In other NHL news, the Montreal Canadiens' defensive players, including Jayden Struble, Arber Xhekaj, and Adam Engstrom, have drawn interest from teams such as the Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, and Anaheim Ducks. Additionally, rumors continue to circulate regarding the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and various pending unrestricted free agents.
