NHLPA Demands Investigation into Mike Babcock Ahead of Potential Oilers Hire

The accusations stem from the 2023‑24 season, when Babcock allegedly requested access to players’ mobile‑phone photos and engaged in other conduct described as invasive. He left Columbus before coaching a regular‑season game amid the controversy. Babcock’s past tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs also attracted criticism for perceived manipulative coaching methods. Despite a successful record that includes a 2008 Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings and two Olympic gold medals as Canada’s head coach, his reputation has been marred by these recent allegations.
