NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Chicago Highlights Prospects and Trading Card Launch
The NHLPA and Upper Deck held the 2026 Rookie Showcase at Chicago's Blackhawks Ice Center, moving the event to late July to give prospects extra time before training camps. Twenty‑one NHL prospects, including Detroit Red Wings forward Trey Augustine, participated in photo shoots, video sessions for EA Sports and other promotional material, and received their first Upper Deck trading cards.
Washington Capitals prospects Cole Hutson and Andrew Cristall were among the five teams with two players at the showcase, sharing a selfie in Capitals jerseys and answering a quick‑fire Q&A about pre‑game routines. Toronto Maple Leafs top draft pick Gavin McKenna also appeared in a full Leafs uniform. Upper Deck added interactive elements such as sketch‑card self‑portraits and a green‑screen celebration video. The event coincided with the National Sports Collectors Convention at the nearby Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, where several prospects interacted with fans.
The showcase serves both as a media orientation for future NHL players and as a key moment for trading‑card collectors ahead of the upcoming season.
