NHS Golden Jubilee launches robotic knee replacement trial
The NHS Golden Jubilee is leading the MARVEL study, a landmark clinical trial designed to evaluate the effectiveness of robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery compared to traditional methods. The study utilizes the VELYS Robotic Assisted Solution and the ATTUNE knee system at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital in Clydebank.
Researchers aim to determine if the increased precision offered by robotic technology results in superior patient outcomes regarding recovery speed, joint function, and long-term performance. This project represents the first use of VELYS robotic-assisted total knee replacements within the NHS in Scotland. Professor Christopher Gee noted that the study seeks to understand if robotic assistance genuinely improves patient outcomes, while Dr. Andrew Hall highlighted the collaboration between university scientists and NHS clinicians as a way to shape the future of orthopaedic surgery.
