NHS GP websites offline after provider enters administration
Hundreds of GP practice websites across England and Wales have gone offline following the sudden administration of software provider Silicon Practice. The company, which has partnered with the NHS since 2005, reportedly serves approximately 1,000 websites.
Patients at various surgeries, including locations in London, Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, and Swansea, have reported receiving alerts regarding the unavailability of online services. Affected sites are currently displaying ‘Bad Gateway’ error messages. Some surgeries have noted that the disruption to online forms and websites may last longer than initially expected, leading to increased call volumes for patients attempting to contact their doctors.
NHS England confirmed that while the majority of its more than 6,000 general practices are operating normally, those relying on Silicon Practice are impacted. The administration notice was filed earlier this month by the company’s parent, Schappit Ltd. NHS England stated it is contacting affected practices to ensure minimal impact on patient care and advised individuals to contact their surgeries by phone or in person if their website is unavailable.
