NHS hospital infrastructure projects reach key milestones in South West England

Significant healthcare infrastructure developments are underway in South West England. Torbay and South Devon NHS has been awarded an additional £1.8 million in government funding to improve fire safety within the Tower Block at Torbay Hospital. The facility holds the distinction of having the third oldest hospital estate in the country, necessitating ongoing investment to manage risks associated with its age and design while long-term plans for a new hospital progress under the national New Hospital Programme.

Separately, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has reached a major milestone at Derriford Hospital with the ‘topping out’ of its new Emergency Care Building. The completion of the main structural framework marks a transition into the next phase of construction for the multi-million pound project. Scheduled for completion in April 2029, the four-story facility is designed to modernize urgent and emergency care services for patients across Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.
