NHS launches autumn 2026 vaccination programme
The NHS autumn 2026 vaccination programme has commenced, focusing on protecting vulnerable populations from various respiratory illnesses.
For pregnant women, routine vaccinations are offered against influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and whooping cough. These vaccinations aim to transfer maternal antibodies to the unborn baby to provide protection against life-threatening diseases immediately after birth. While COVID-19 vaccines are no longer routinely offered to all pregnant women, those who meet specific immunosuppression criteria remain eligible.
Regarding COVID-19, the autumn booster programme follows advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). Eligibility is consistent across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, targeting adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and individuals aged 6 months and older who are immunosuppressed. The programme aims to mitigate the risk of severe illness, hospitalisation, and death as immunity from previous doses wanes.
