NHS launches new app feature to facilitate flu vaccination bookings

The NHS and the UK government have introduced a new feature within the NHS App to allow eligible individuals to check their eligibility and book flu vaccinations. This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase uptake and reduce pressure on health and social care services during the winter season.

Since bookings opened in August, more than 10 million flu vaccinations have been administered in England, with 2.7 million of those delivered in the past week alone. To support the rollout, a social media campaign has been launched across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.

Additional measures include the acceleration of the ‘Manage a Vaccination in School’ (MAVIS) programme, which will support immunisation delivery across 14,000 schools. Furthermore, a community pharmacy catch-up programme will be launched later this year for school-aged children who missed previous vaccinations. Health officials emphasize that the programme targets vulnerable groups, including young children, pregnant women, older adults, and those with long-term health conditions.
