NHS Wales secures roles for over 250 additional nursing graduates

More than 250 additional nursing graduates have secured positions within NHS Wales since June. This progress follows a graduate summit convened by Health and Care Minister Mabon ap Gwynfor to address delays in newly qualified healthcare professionals starting their careers.

All nursing graduates from Aberystwyth University and Bangor University have successfully secured employment. While the Welsh Government stated there are currently enough vacancies to accommodate the remaining unallocated nursing graduates, work is ongoing to match individuals to suitable roles.

Minister ap Gwynfor noted that while progress has been made, significant work remains, particularly regarding employment for midwifery graduates. The government intends to use lessons from this cohort to improve future workforce planning and align education commissioning with service needs.
