NHVR announces compliance blitz at Melbourne Market
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has announced ‘Operation Melbourne Market’, a compliance blitz targeting heavy vehicle offences at the Melbourne Market in Epping. The operation aims to address significant non-compliance issues, specifically focusing on loading and mass-related offences, which accounted for 90 per cent of breaches detected during the previous three operations at the site.
During the most recent operation in April 2025, the NHVR conducted 61 intercepts, resulting in a 59 per cent non-compliance rate. This included 25 infringement notices, 23 defect notices, and 25 education outcomes. NHVR Chief Operations Officer Paul Salvati noted that while education is a priority, operators who disregard responsibilities regarding mass limits, load restraint, and vehicle standards should expect enforcement action.
To prepare for the upcoming enforcement, the NHVR will host an information hub at BP Northpoint, opposite the Melbourne Market, on Wednesday, 28 October, from 6 am to 10 am AEDT. This session will allow drivers and operators to consult with safety and compliance officers regarding their obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
