Niš film actors launch independent festival after cancellation of 60th Filmski susreti

The 60th edition of the Filmski susreti festival in Niš was cancelled after the Udruženje filmskih glumaca Srbije (UFGS) and the city of Niš failed to reach an agreement on its organization. UFGS announced it will independently hold a "Niški filmski festival" from 29 August to 3 September, using the slogan "Više od igre!".

The self‑organized event will showcase leading domestic film productions from the past two years, include competition sections, world and Serbian premieres, panels, exhibitions and workshops, and will present the lifetime achievement award named after actor Pavle Vuisić. Details about the venue, such as whether the traditional Summer Stage will be used, have not been confirmed, and city authorities have declined to provide further information.

The cancellation reflects tensions over the political and social situation in Serbia, according to festival officials, but the actors’ association aims to continue the tradition of celebrating Serbian film and acting through the new festival.
