Niš traffic accidents cause 65 deaths and 2,730 injuries over five years

A report from the Road Safety Agency reveals that between 2021 and 2025, Niš recorded 65 traffic fatalities and 2,730 injuries. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable group, accounting for 33 of the deaths and 663 injuries. Nearly half of those killed were over the age of 65, while four children also lost their lives in accidents during this period.

The most frequent cause of these incidents is attributed to imprudent driver behavior. The report highlights several safety concerns in Niš, including a significantly lower rate of child seat usage (28%) compared to the national average (49%), and less than 50% of moped riders wearing helmets.

In a related context regarding motorcycle safety in Serbia, where approximately 50 to 60 motorcyclists die annually, survivors are increasingly sharing personal accounts to promote awareness. One survivor, Milan Mitić, recounted a high-speed accident caused by driving under the influence without protective gear, emphasizing the long-term consequences of such decisions.
