NIA arrests UAE-based accused in VHP leader murder case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Manveer Ram, also known as Ashu, in connection with the April 2024 murder of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar in Nangal, Punjab. Ram was intercepted by immigration officials at Amritsar International Airport following a Look Out Circular.

Investigators allege that Ram, who operated from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), served as a critical intermediary between Germany-based handlers of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and firearm suppliers in India. The NIA claims his role was to facilitate communication and arrange the weapons used in the targeted killing.

The conspiracy was reportedly orchestrated by BKI handlers Harjit Singh (alias Laddi) and Kulbeer Singh (alias Sidhu) from Germany. Prabhakar was shot dead at his confectionery shop on April 13, 2024. The NIA has filed one chargesheet and two supplementary chargesheets as the investigation into the broader conspiracy continues.
