India NIA files chargesheets in terror and smuggling cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed several chargesheets in connection with distinct security and smuggling investigations in India.

In Assam, the NIA filed a chargesheet against five individuals, including ULFA (I) Chairman Paresh Baruah, regarding the recovery of an IED planted in Guwahati in August 2024. The case involves an alleged conspiracy to wage war against the Indian government through multiple blasts.

In Haryana, a supplementary chargesheet was filed in the Panchkula Special Court concerning a November 2025 grenade attack near a Women Police Station in Sirsa. The NIA named four additional accused—Rajbir Singh, Ved Parkash, Jiwanjot Singh Grewal, and Chirag Thakral—alleging that Singh acted as an India-based coordinator for a cross-border network involving foreign handlers.

Additionally, the NIA filed its third chargesheet in an international arms and narcotics trafficking case. This investigation focuses on a smuggling syndicate that allegedly used drones to drop foreign-made weapons and heroin near international borders for distribution across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.
