A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jagdalpur has convicted 10 individuals for their involvement in the 2013 Jhiram Ghati Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. The attack, which occurred on May 25, 2013, targeted a convoy of Congress leaders during the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ and resulted in the deaths of approximately 29 to 32 people, including senior political figures such as Nand Kumar Patel, Mahendra Karma, and Vidya Charan Shukla.

The court found the accused guilty under various charges, including the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence from 101 witnesses. While 11 people were originally charged, one accused died during the legal proceedings.

Judge Ajay Singh Rajput has reserved the order on the sentencing of the convicts, which is scheduled to be announced on September 16, 2026. Defense lawyers have indicated their intention to appeal the verdict in a higher court. The ruling has also sparked political debate in Chhattisgarh, with the Congress party questioning the depth of the NIA investigation and the ruling BJP welcoming the decision.
