Insha Jan bail rejected by NIA court in Pulwama attack case
A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu has rejected the bail application of Insha Jan, an accused in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack conspiracy. Special Judge Prem Sagar issued a 15-page order stating that sufficient material exists on record to presume the allegations against Jan are prima facie true.
The court ruled that the statutory bar under Section 43-D(5) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) prevents her release at this stage. Jan, who has been in custody since March 2020, faces charges under the Ranbir Penal Code, UAPA, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.
The NIA alleges that Jan and her father provided food, shelter, and logistical support to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, including Pakistani operatives Muhammad Umar Farooq and Mohammad Kamran Ali. Additionally, the prosecution claims a video of suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar was recorded at Jan’s residence in late January 2019.
