Delhi NIA court sentences four ISIS operatives in ‘Voice of Hind’ case

A special NIA court in Delhi has sentenced four operatives of the banned terrorist organization ISIS to prison terms ranging from five to six years in connection with the ‘Voice of Hind’ conspiracy case. The convicts—Umar Nisar (alias Qasim Khurasani), Rameez Ahmad Lone, and Tanveer Ahmad Bhat—received six years of rigorous imprisonment, while Afshan Parvaiz Jarabi was sentenced to five years. All four were also ordered to pay varying fines.

The case involved a conspiracy to radicalize and recruit Indian youth for violent jihad through online propaganda. According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the network used pseudo online identities to create, edit, and disseminate the India-centric ISIS propaganda magazine, ‘Sawt-al-Hind’ (The Voice of Hind).

Beyond digital propaganda, the investigation revealed that the network aimed to facilitate ‘hijrat’ (migration) of Indians to ISIS conflict zones in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The NIA also identified efforts to provide on-ground terror financing to support these activities. The court found the accused guilty under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
