NIA files chargesheets in Red Fort blast and foreign national cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released chargesheets regarding two distinct investigations.

In the November 2025 Red Fort blast case, the NIA alleges the attack was a suicide bombing. The chargesheet identifies Umer Un Nabi as the mastermind and operational lead of a revived Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind module. The agency claims the accused followed the ‘Lone Mujahid Pocket Book/How to Become an Assassin’, an AQAP-linked manual providing guidance on explosives, TATP, and covert operations. The blast resulted in 11 deaths and 29 injuries.

In a separate case involving seven foreign nationals, including American Matthew Aaron VanDyke and six Ukrainians, the NIA has filed a chargesheet under the Immigration and Foreigners Act rather than the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The group was arrested for allegedly training ethnic armed groups in Myanmar and transporting drones. While the omission of UAPA charges has sparked political debate, the NIA stated that the anti-terror investigation remains active and a supplementary chargesheet may be filed if further evidence is established.
