The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched a series of coordinated raids across 16 locations in Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. The operations target a cross-border terror conspiracy linked to Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

In West Bengal, the NIA detained Piyar Mohammad Sheikh, an imam from the Palishgram village in East Burdwan district. In Assam, authorities arrested six individuals in the Barpeta district for their alleged involvement in radicalization and recruitment activities. The raids included searches in the Howly, Barpeta Road, and Sorbhog areas, where investigators seized mobile phones, laptops, and various documents.

Investigations suggest the IMK module aimed to expand extremist ideology and establish a presence in India through religious indoctrination, clandestine meetings, and digital propaganda. Intelligence sources indicate the group's ultimate objective was to facilitate an armed struggle to establish Sharia rule in India. The crackdown follows a chargesheet filed three months ago against 11 accused individuals under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
