Niagara Falls to host Millie’s Place residential hospice by 2028
The City of Niagara Falls has announced the development of Millie’s Place, a new residential hospice expected to open by 2028. The project is a partnership between the city and the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre, aimed at expanding local access to end-of-life care.
The facility will be located adjacent to the South Niagara Hospital, which is also slated for a mid-2028 opening. Land for the hospice was donated by Empire Homes, and the project has reportedly raised $20 million in total, including a $3 million donation from philanthropist and real-estate developer Stewart Branscombe. The hospice is named in honor of Branscombe’s late mother, Millie.
Supported by Ontario’s health ministry, the initiative seeks to address local service gaps by allowing residents to receive palliative care within their own community. Mayor Jim Diodati stated that the facility will provide a dedicated space for compassion, comfort, and dignity for families during end-of-life transitions.
