Niagara police officer charged after impaired driving crash

A Niagara Regional Police officer is facing multiple charges following an impaired driving incident and a subsequent vehicle collision in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

According to police reports, officers attempted to stop a grey Dodge Ram pickup truck around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday near Glendale Avenue and Taylor Road. The driver failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that was eventually called off due to public safety concerns. Shortly after, the pickup truck collided with another vehicle.

The driver, identified as 54-year-old Paul-Andre Seguin of Fort Erie, was arrested at the scene. Seguin, a 21-year veteran of the Niagara Regional Police Service, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital. He faces charges including impaired operation of a conveyance, flight from a peace officer, and dangerous operation.

Seguin has been suspended with pay pending an investigation. The Special Investigations Unit has also invoked its mandate due to the injuries sustained during the incident. No other injuries were reported.
