Niakhène: Over 1,000 people enrolled in universal health coverage

More than 1,000 vulnerable individuals in the Niakhène commune, located in the Tivaouane department, have been enrolled in the Universal Health Coverage (CSU) program free of charge. The initiative was led by Dr. Abdou Lahat Guèye, a local leader of the Pastef party.

During a ceremony held on October 18 at a local health post, over 650 beneficiaries—including women, elderly persons, Serigne Daara, and talibés—received their CSU cards. This followed the distribution of 350 cards in the village of Khawlou the previous day. The agreement, signed between Dr. Guèye and Anta Mbaye Diop, president of the Tivaouane departmental mutual health fund, allows these populations to receive 80% coverage for medical costs in public health structures.

The Thiès regional agency for health coverage provided technical teams to produce and deliver cards on-site, while Tivaouane personnel managed data collection. Anta Mbaye Diop noted that such private initiatives support public health policies by assisting rural populations with limited means.
