Niamey fuel supplies gradually normalize after shortages

Fuel supplies in Niamey are gradually returning to normal following a nearly two-week shortage that caused significant queues at service stations in the Nigerien capital. According to reports from the Nigerien Press Agency (ANP), government measures have facilitated a progressive resumption of deliveries.

During a visit to the Sonidep Sorey hydrocarbon depot, Niger’s Minister of Petroleum, Hamadou Tini, and Minister of Commerce, Abdoulaye Seydou, addressed the supply disruptions. The ministers emphasized the need to follow a weekly schedule and instructed station operators to collect their quotas to ensure timely replenishment. To facilitate logistics, stations are currently operating with a closure period between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, allowing for nightly deliveries of approximately 5,000 to 10,000 liters of gasoline per station.

While stocks are being depleted quickly due to high demand, local station managers and consumers report that long queues are diminishing and service is becoming more efficient.
