Nic Maddinson recalled to Australian Test squad for South Africa series
Australia has recalled batsman Nic Maddinson to the Test squad for the opening match against South Africa in Durban. Maddinson, 34, makes his return to the red-ball side nearly a decade after his last Test appearance in 2016, following a recovery from testicular cancer. He received medical clearance to resume professional play after completing chemotherapy in July 2025.
The squad adjustments follow several injuries to key players. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the first Test due to a right index finger fracture sustained during an ODI. To provide cover, uncapped wicketkeeper Sam Harper has been drafted into the touring party.
Additionally, all-rounder Cameron Green is facing fitness concerns after sustaining an abdominal strain, leaving his availability for the series opener uncertain. While opener Matt Renshaw has been cleared of a wrist injury, the Australian selection committee continues to monitor the status of several players ahead of the three-match series.
