Nic Nemeth reveals pitching injury storylines to Vince McMahon

Former WWE champion Nic Nemeth revealed that he once pitched Vince McMahon on the use of scripted injury angles to enhance television storytelling and prevent performer overexposure.

Speaking on the program ‘Busted Open’, Nemeth noted that he remained largely injury-free during his nearly 20-year tenure with the company. He argued that constant weekly appearances could cause both wrestlers and fans to become stale. Nemeth suggested that planned absences would allow for major crowd reactions upon a performer's return and provide opportunities for midcard talent to move into higher-profile roles.

Using Cody Rhodes as an example, Nemeth explained how a hiatus could facilitate various narrative shifts, such as a character returning as a ‘tweener’ or undergoing a dramatic heel turn. He emphasized that such creative booking would keep the product dynamic and protect the long-term interest of the audience.
