Nicanor Parra commemorated on 112th birth anniversary

Chilean poet and physicist Nicanor Parra is being commemorated on the 112th anniversary of his birth through literary discussions and archival preservation efforts.

During a talk titled “Buenas y malas maneras,” musician and writer Mauricio Redolés shared personal anecdotes regarding Parra. Redolés reflected on discovering Parra’s work in the 1970s and noted the poet's ability to use everyday language to speak about common people, contrasting it with more metaphysical or religious poetry. Redolés also recounted meeting Parra in person during the late 1980s.

Simultaneously, the Universidad de Chile is highlighting the preservation of Parra’s legacy through the Archivo Central Andrés Bello. The archive holds various documents spanning his six-decade relationship with the institution, including his student records, teaching files, and a volume signed and dedicated to Pablo Neruda. While some materials from the ETHICS area are already digitized, full integration into the Digital Library platform is expected by 2027. Researchers and the public can currently consult these historical records in person.
