Nicaragua and Argentina report sharp declines in traffic accidents

Nicaragua’s National Police reported a reduction of 309 injured persons from the start of the year through early August 2026 compared with the same period last year. During that time 1,348 collisions were recorded, 862 of them in Managua, and only 35 people were injured. Police actions included the seizure of 16,622 vehicles, 13,812 breath‑alcohol tests, 418 arrests for driving without a license, and the delivery of more than 23,000 road‑safety talks.

In Pergamino, Argentina, traffic accidents fell 27.8% in the first half of 2026, with 528 incidents versus 731 in the same period of 2025. Injured persons dropped 22.7% to 307. The June count fell to 78 accidents from 131 a year earlier. Officials credited a mix of preventive controls, alcohol‑testing operations, and road‑education campaigns, highlighted by Subsecretary Marcos Turrini.
