On July 29, 2026, the Government of Nicaragua, represented by President Daniel Ortega and First Lady Rosario Murillo, issued a formal congratulatory message to President Nikenike Vurobaravu of the Republic of Vanuatu on the occasion of Vanuatu’s independence anniversary on July 30. The letter reaffirmed the friendship, solidarity and the intention to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.
Earlier in July, Mexico’s ambassador to Nicaragua, Guillermo Zamora Villa, sent a letter to Ortega and Murillo expressing “cariño y admiración” and congratulating them on the 47th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution. The ambassador described the 1979 victory as an “importantísimo y célebre triunfo” and referenced Ortega’s recent declaration that “no volverá a haber elecciones” for the opposition.
