Nicaragua and the regional dimension of security in Central America

The concept of security is analyzed through two primary lenses: as a guarantee of the established order and as a state of internal and external peace resulting from social cohesion. In an interconnected world, effective security policies have regional implications that extend beyond national borders, particularly in regions like Central America.

True general security requires a climate of peace for institutions to function and for those institutions to meet their responsibilities to the societies they govern. This involves a sociopolitical reality characterized by low levels of violence and the ability of a society's normative system to absorb inevitable levels of conflict.
