Nicaragua and Uruguay roll out water and housing projects for hundreds of families

The Nicaraguan government, through the state water utility ENACAL and the Masaya municipal council, put a new well into operation in the Quebrada Honda community of Masaya. The infrastructure, electrified and equipped with a submersible pump, is expected to improve drinking‑water supply for roughly 900 families in the surrounding neighborhoods.

In Uruguay, the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Order (MVOT) and the Intendencia de San José inaugurated a complex of 32 homes for families displaced by flooding along the San José River. The project, financed with about US$3 million, includes the provision of water, sanitation and road infrastructure. Local officials highlighted the long‑term effort to restore housing rights for flood‑affected residents.
