Nicaragua approves constitutional reform rejecting foreign laws

The National Assembly of Nicaragua has approved a constitutional reform aimed at rejecting the extraterritorial application of foreign laws and international resolutions. The measure, which includes a new article prohibiting foreign legal norms from having legal effect within Nicaraguan territory, is intended to protect the nation's sovereignty and independence.

According to Gustavo Porras, President of the Parliament, the reform ensures that only agreements signed on behalf of the Nicaraguan state will be applicable. The text specifies that no law, regulation, or norm issued by another state, group of states, or international organization that undermines the peace or sovereignty of the nation will be recognized.

This legislative move follows a recent resolution by the Organization of American States (OAS) to convene a meeting of foreign ministers to discuss policies related to the Nicaraguan government. Analysts suggest the reform serves as a legal barrier against potential international diplomatic or economic actions.
