Nicaragua celebrates Cuban Culture Day with concert in Managua

Nicaragua and Cuba celebrated their cultural ties with a concert at the Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío in Managua to mark Cuban Culture Day. The event, titled ‘Trova Sinfónica’, featured a wide range of Cuban musical genres, including trova latinoamericana, son, guarachas, boleros, chachachá, and rumba.

Performers included the Camerata Bach, the Jazz Tá group, and vocalists such as Lenin Triana, Michel Sánchez, Erika Seija, and Marvin Moreno Rivas. The repertoire included iconic works by Silvio Rodríguez, Miguel Matamoros, Celina González, Pablo Milanés, and Benny Moré, concluding with ‘La Guantanamera’.

Ramón Rodríguez, director of the National Theater, noted that this celebration has been held for over 30 years, serving as a gesture of gratitude toward the Cuban people. Cuban Ambassador Iliana Teresa Fonseca Lorente described the concert as an excellent way to use culture as a bridge between the two nations. Cuban Culture Day is observed annually on October 20 to commemorate the first performance of Cuba’s national anthem in 1868.
