Central America marks 205 years of independence with parades and diplomacy

Central American nations are commemorating the 205th anniversary of their independence with widespread civic celebrations, parades, and diplomatic exchanges.

In Honduras, President Nasry Asfura led official ceremonies and called for national unity to attract investment and create jobs. Large-scale parades featuring students and marching bands took place in Tegucigalpa and other municipalities. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Honduras, emphasizing bilateral cooperation in security and transnational crime through initiatives like the 'Shield of the Americas.'

In Costa Rica, President Laura Fernández participated in traditional parades in San José, marking her first official September 15th event. Meanwhile, in Nicaragua, government officials including Rosario Murillo emphasized themes of peace and sovereignty. However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement expressing solidarity with the Nicaraguan people while criticizing the Murillo-Ortega administration.

In El Salvador, celebrations included large parades in San Salvador, though social organizations also held marches to demand constitutional rights and protest the current state of exception. Diplomatic receptions were also held abroad, such as in Kuwait, to mark the regional milestone.
